Pokémon 30th Celebration: The Complete Collector’s Guide

CollectraTCG · Updated 22 October 2026 · 8 min read

Thirty years ago, two Game Boy games launched in Japan and started the biggest media franchise in the world. Pokémon 30th Celebration is the trading card game’s birthday party: a special set built around Pikachu, classic cards and gold anniversary packaging. Here is everything a collector needs to know, from what is in each box to which one is right for you.

Key takeaways

  • 30th Celebration is a special set released in English on 16 September 2026.
  • There are 30 rare Pikachu cards to collect, and one comes in every pack.
  • 30 classic cards return as anniversary reprints, plus new Futuristic rares illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN.
  • There is no English booster box: the Elite Trainer Box is the best all-round buy, and the Japanese booster box is the pick for openers.

What is Pokémon 30th Celebration?

Pokémon 30th Celebration is a special expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game released for the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Like other special sets, it sits outside the normal main-set schedule of the Mega Evolution series and in English is sold in Elite Trainer Boxes, booster bundles and collection boxes rather than booster boxes.

The theme is simple and clever: Pikachu, the face of Pokémon for three decades, appears in 30 different rare cards, with daytime and nighttime illustrations, and a rare Pikachu is guaranteed in every booster pack.

30 years of Pokémon in 60 seconds

  • 1996: Pokémon Red and Green launch in Japan on 27 February, the date now celebrated every year as Pokémon Day. The Japanese trading card game follows in October.
  • 1999: the Pokémon TCG arrives in English and the original Base Set becomes a playground phenomenon.
  • 2016: the 20th anniversary is marked by the Generations set.
  • 2021: the 25th anniversary brings Celebrations, whose Classic Collection reprints of famous cards became a collector favourite.
  • 2026: 30th Celebration continues that tradition with 30 classic reprints and 30 Pikachu.

The cards collectors chase

  • The 30 Pikachu: one rare Pikachu per pack, so every pack counts towards the full set of 30. Completing them is the main goal for most collectors.
  • Classic reprints: 30 cards from Pokémon TCG history return as anniversary reprints, a nod to the Classic Collection that made Celebrations so popular.
  • Futuristic rares: a brand-new rare type with illustrations by the artist YOSHIROTTEN, unlike anything in previous sets.

Every 30th Celebration product compared

  • Elite Trainer Box: 9 booster packs, an illustration rare style Nidorina promo card, sleeves, Energy cards, dice and a storage box in gold anniversary design. The most complete product of the range.
  • Booster Bundle: 6 booster packs and nothing else. The simplest way to open the set.
  • Poster Collection: 3 booster packs, three promo cards featuring Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, and a two-sided poster. The most accessible entry point.
  • Binder Collection: 5 booster packs and a 9-pocket collector’s portfolio to store your Pikachu cards. Out on 4 December 2026 and available to pre-order now.
  • Japanese Booster Box: the Japanese edition, sold as a full booster box and printed in Japan. The best choice if you want to open a lot of packs in one go.

Which one should you buy?

  • You want to open as many packs as possible: combine the Elite Trainer Box with a Booster Bundle for 15 packs.
  • You are buying a gift: the Elite Trainer Box looks spectacular and includes everything a new player needs.
  • You are on a budget or buying for a child: the Poster Collection gives you packs, three legendary bird promos and a poster for the wall.
  • You want to chase all 30 Pikachu: the Binder Collection gives you packs and somewhere to keep them.
  • You collect sealed: an Elite Trainer Box is the classic piece to keep unopened, as anniversary products have historically been popular with collectors.

Open it or keep it sealed?

Both are good choices, and many collectors do both: one box to open, one to keep. Anniversary sets such as Celebrations have been popular sealed collectibles, but no product is guaranteed to rise in value, so buy what you will enjoy owning.

If you keep a box sealed, store it away from sunlight and humidity and use a protective case. Our guide on how to store sealed Pokémon products explains how, and our resealed product checklist shows how to check the factory seal.

See the full range in one place on our Pokémon 30th Celebration collection page. Every product is 100% factory sealed and dispatched in 1–2 business days with tracking.

Where 30th Celebration fits in the Mega Evolution era

30th Celebration is released alongside the Mega Evolution series, between Pitch Black (July 2026) and Delta Reign (November 2026). If you are new to the current era, our Mega Evolution sets guide lists every set in order with its chase cards.
